The term “genomics” describes the application of DNA sequencing and other ‘omics technologies to the understanding of biological systems and processes at a genome-wide scale. Genomics can encompass studies of the genome and epigenome, the transcriptome, downstream effects on the proteome and metabolome, and the microbiome; and be carried out at different scales.
